It’s possible to thrive for years while embracing your demons … but only temporarily. You can have it all and convince yourself you’re untouchable for years, but eventually a crack is going to form. Then grow. Then everything will come crashing down, and I do mean everything.
Now, according to The Federalist Papers Project, it seems her husband isn’t the only sexual predator Hillary Clinton helped cover for.
Mercury News reports that according to The Daily Beast founder Tina Brown and actress Lena Dunham (not exactly the most credible source, we admit, but someone who’d have no obvious reason to lie about this), they were among the many Hollywood/media figures who heard the stories about disgraced film mogul and Democrat mega-donor Harvey Weinstein, so they passed along what they knew to Clinton’s people — and got a decidedly un-feminist response:
Dunham said she had heard some of the stories others had heard about Weinstein. In March of 2016, Dunham said, she warned the campaign. She told Clinton’s deputy communications director Kristina Schake: “I just want you to let you know that Harvey’s a rapist and this is going to come out at some point.”
She added, “I think it’s a really bad idea for him to host fundraisers and be involved because it’s an open secret in Hollywood that he has a problem with sexual assault.”
Based on stories she had heard about Weinstein’s “sleaziness with women,” Brown said she also warned Clinton’s inner circle about him back in 2008.
It appears that their warnings went unheeded because Weinstein helped organize a star-packed fundraiser for Clinton weeks before the election: an evening on Broadway with Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway and others.
Though Clinton’s communications director Nick Merrill, Schake and Clinton’s campaign manager Robby Mook said they didn’t recall receiving any warnings about Weinstein — including reports about rape or other forms of sexual misconduct — from Dunham or Brown.
In a statement, Merrill said, “We were shocked when we learned what he’d done. It’s despicable behavior, and the women that have come forward have shown enormous courage. As to claims about a warning, that’s something staff wouldn’t forget” […]
While Dunham doesn’t believe Weinstein’s misconduct reports ever reached Clinton herself, she remains troubled that he was so involved in her campaign. “A year and a half ago, on one of the most progressive campaigns in history, this wasn’t a problem,” Dunham said.
Of course they’re going to give Hillary the benefit of the doubt that she never personally heard any of this. But while it’s admittedly conceivable that Hillary’s underlings are sleazy enough that they’d refuse to pass the information up the food chain solely to give their boss plausible deniability, come on — between Clinton’s delayed response to the revelations and the fact that Weinstein’s crimes were so well known that the entire Oscars audience laughed at jokes about it, the idea that she never personally got a whiff of any of it strains credulity.
Plus, there’s the fact that, y’know, giving sex predators a pass is nothing new to her.
Say, how did the mainstream media treat this bombshell? Newsbusters has the answer (spoiler alert: you won’t be surprised):
Despite two hours of available air time, ABC’s Good Morning America on Wednesday skipped a damning New York Times story with a bombshell claim: Hillary Clinton, during the 2016 presidential campaign, was told that Harvey Weinstein was a rapist, but still took his donations and raised money off him.
It should be pointed out that GMA is co-hosted by George Stephanopoulos, a former top aide to Bill Clinton and friend of Hillary Clinton. CBS and NBC covered the allegations in the Times, though briefly. On CBS This Morning, Jericka Duncan explained, “Actress Lena Dunham confirmed to CBS News how she warned aides to Hillary Clinton last March about Weinstein’s treatment of women, saying, quote, ‘I think it’s a really bad idea for him to be involved. He has a problem with sexual assault’” […]
Still, CBS only allowed 35 seconds on this potentially huge story (while talking about Weinstein in general). Over on NBC, the network of disgraced sexual abuser Matt Lauer, Today allowed 25 seconds on the Clinton angle (also within a larger story on Weinstein).
Clinton came under criticism for waiting nearly a week to respond to the allegations about her friend and top political supporter. When she finally issued a statement, she said: “I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein. The behavior described by the women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior.”
