These days, it seems as that sexual harassment is constantly in the news. Those who have commited sexual offenses believe that their victims will stay quiet. However, this puts victims in a position to blackmail their offenders, especially if they have money.

Recently, New York Representative Eric Massa has been accused of sexual assault by two young male staffers. It was revealed that Congressional Office of Compliance secretly paid $100,000 in taxpayer funds to settle the complaints and keep the staffers quiet.

Massa immediately resigned after the sexual harassment accusations against him surfaced in 2010.

At least one Democrat is on the right side of this. During an interview with ABC News, Representative Kathleen Rice blasted the payouts. She said that these settlements ween’t supposed to be done secretly.

It appears that the government’s $17 million slush fund had multiple uses and Massa’s secret settlement was just one of them.

This fund, which exists under the Treasury, paid $1.3 trillion to Iran. The Judgment Fund covered that too. The Congress wasn’t aware about where thee money went until it was seen on TV sitting on pallets at a Swiss airport being loaded on a plane.

The fund is not only used to cover up for politicians. As you can see, it’s used for all kinds of dirty secrets. The 1995 Congressional Accountability Act allowed the Office of to use taxpayer dollars from the Department of Treasury in order to settle harassment claims against Congress members,  American Conservative Herald.

This kind of things should make US taxpayers furious. Why would someone use a slush fund to buy off the victims of alleged sexual harassment of our elected officials?

The slush fund should be disband. Also, proceedings should be started against those accused of sexual offenses. They deserve due process since they are innocent until proven guilt. However, taxpayers should not pay the bill for those offenses.

There should not by any government-sponsored programs to buy off victims with taxpayers money. This is a new low for our country. Hopefully, President Donald Trump will make some changes.
