Over the past few months, hundreds of NFL players have been taking a knee during the national anthem to protest against President Donald Trump and against racial inequality. Americans have responded by turning off their television rather than watch our flag be disrespected, which in turn has caused ratings to plummet.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has allowed these protests to continue even though recent estimates that the league has lost about $500 million in TV advertising dollars alone, not counting ticket sales, merchandising losses and the potential of an additional billion dollars lost in tax subsidies.
Now, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has had enough, and he’s taking action.
Freedom Daily reported that this past week, President Donald Trump slammed both the NFL and Goodell for continuing to disrespect the American flag.
“Can you believe that the disrespect for our Country, our Flag, our Anthem continues without penalty to the players. The Commissioner has lost control of the hemorrhaging league. Players are the boss!’” Trump wrote.

Jones, who was one of the first owners to say that his team would not be participating in the anthem protests, said that he “appreciates” what Trump has to say about the anthem protests.
“I certainly think that the thing he is addressing is certainly a part of how we want to make our game better,” Jones said. “There’s no question because of our visibility, our substantiveness, that we are looked to for social responsibility as well. This is all part of what I’ve been talking about with the commissioner, and certainly I appreciate not only the president, but I want everybody to be a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.”
Though Jones originally kneeled with his team, he has since changed his tune and said that players will be benched for kneeling during the anthem.
Clearly, Jones realizes that in order for the NFL to get their fans back, they are going to have to show the national anthem the respect it deserves. He has also reportedly been leading the charge to get rid of Goodell so that a new commissioner who is not afraid to take action can be brought in.
